The Rubinoos
If I Had You Back, 1984.
This song should have been a big hit. That’s all I’m going to say.

The Babys
Every Time I Think of You, 1979.
Yes, that is the very same John Waite who grew up to record “Missing You” in the 1980s.
Blur
There’s No Other Way, 1991.
Still one of the best pop songs ever, not to mention one of the more definitive examples of the soundtrack of my life during my first year or two in San Francisco. I miss the early 1990s. In many ways.
Puddle of Mudd
Psycho, 2007.
It’s a little gimmicky and a lot 1990s retro, but it amuses me this week.
Los Golpes
Olvidarte Nunca, 1971.
I absolutely love this song, and I find myself walking around the house humming it. It’s got a great hook. Mark and I have been looking really hard to find this one particular version of it, since it’s apparently out of print. The YouTube video is the closest we’ve come so far.
Joe Jackson
Real Men, 1982.
Local H
Bound for the Floor, 1996.
You just don’t hear nearly enough pop songs these days that use the word “copacetic.”
Paris Is One Day Away
The Mood, 1983.
Evelyn Thomas
High Energy, 1984.
The majority of that 1980s queer bar disco crap was not really my cup of tea. This was always one of those rare exceptions, and I’m not really 100% certain why.
Charlie Dore
Pilot of the Airwaves, 1980.
The strange things are (a) the fact that Charlie Dore is actually British, and (b) the way this song pretty much disappeared forever once it left the pop charts. Most people seem not to have heard it even once since the summer of 1980.
